What Are the Benefits of a Sound Bath? A Christ-Centered Perspective

If you've ever searched for sound baths in Columbus, Ohio, you've probably seen a wide variety of opinions. Some people describe them as relaxing. Others view them as spiritual practices. And some Christians wonder if they are compatible with their faith.

I've been asked this question many times, so I wanted to share my perspective—not as a debate, but as my personal testimony.

I can't speak for anyone else's practice.

I can only speak for what God has shown me.

What Is a Sound Bath?

A sound bath is a guided wellness experience where soothing sounds and gentle vibrations create a peaceful environment for rest, reflection, and stillness. At The Koko Bella, I use crystal singing bowls, breath awareness, quiet reflection, and moments of prayer to help participants slow down and step away from the constant noise of everyday life.

Many people leave feeling calmer, more focused, and refreshed.

But for me, the purpose goes much deeper than relaxation.

My Journey with Sound Baths

Before I ever purchased my singing bowls, I prayed.

I asked God if this was something He wanted me to do.

What He said was was:

"Sing to My people."

And,

"Sing to Me."

To me singing represented "a sweet melody."

That changed everything.

Before I offered a single session, I dedicated my bowls to God, just as I dedicate my home, my work, and every area of my life to Him. To me, they are simply instruments, no different than a piano, violin, harp, or drum. They are tools that can be used in worship and service to God.

God Is the Healer

One thing I always want people to understand is this:

The bowls do not heal people.

God heals.

Every sound bath I lead begins with prayer because God is the source, not the instruments.

The music simply creates an environment where people can become still enough to pray, reflect, worship, listen, and rest in God's presence.

The Benefits of a Sound Bath

While everyone's experience is different, many participants describe benefits such as:

  • Feeling deeply relaxed

  • Reducing stress and tension

  • Creating space to slow down

  • Becoming more present

  • Improving mental clarity

  • Supporting emotional well-being

  • Encouraging intentional rest

  • Providing time for prayer and reflection

For many people, life moves so quickly that they rarely create intentional space to be still.

Sometimes, slowing down is exactly what our hearts need.

A Different Kind of Meditation

People often ask if sound baths involve emptying the mind.

For me, the answer is no.

My sessions are not about emptying your thoughts.

They're about filling your heart and mind with God's presence.

Psalm 46:10 says,

"Be still, and know that I am God."

That verse beautifully captures the atmosphere I hope to create.

Not an escape from God—but an opportunity to become more aware of Him.

Music Has Always Been Part of Worship

Throughout Scripture, God used music in powerful ways.

David played the harp for King Saul, and Scripture tells us Saul was refreshed while David played. The power wasn't in David's instrument, it was in God working through David's obedience.

The Bible also repeatedly encourages God's people to praise Him with instruments, including harps, lyres, trumpets, tambourines, strings, and cymbals.

To me, music has always been one of God's gifts.

Discernment Matters

I also believe discernment matters.

Not every spiritual practice points people toward Christ.

Not every teacher is led by the Holy Spirit.

We should always pray, study Scripture, and seek God's wisdom.

At the same time, I believe we should be careful not to assume that everything unfamiliar is automatically evil. I encourage everyone to do exactly what I did:

Pray.

Ask God.

Search the Scriptures.

Test every spirit.

Allow the Holy Spirit to guide your convictions.

What to Expect at My Sound Baths

Every session at The Koko Bella is intentionally designed to be peaceful and welcoming.

Our gatherings begin with prayer, followed by moments of stillness, gentle sound, and guided reflection. My desire is to create an environment where people can pause, breathe, and become more aware of God's presence.

Whether you come carrying stress, grief, uncertainty, or simply the need for rest, my prayer is that you leave encouraged and refreshed.
